Arendal is a small coastal town in southern Norway, situated on the north shore of Skagerrak (Skagen Channel), the entrance linking the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. Across the channel to the east is Sweden, and to the south is the Jutland peninsula of Denmark. The Lysefjord is located in Ryfylke in the county of Rogaland, near Haugesund and Stavanger (a day trip 20 km distant), in SW Norway. The name means ‘light fjord’ due to the lightly coloured granite rocks along its sides. Geiranger is a little village tucked in a hollow surrounded by the towering craggy rock walls that rise almost straight out of the water of the Geirangerfjord, which is one of the most majestic sights in all of Norway.
