Clean Cruising means just that... we believe each cruise experience is a precious one, and so are all the destinations and people visited. For a truly sustainable journey that future generations will also enjoy, everyone needs to do their bit, starting with us now and starting at home.
At Clean Cruising we developed the world's first cruise sustainability program using our unique mapping technology to accurately calculate values. We then partnered with Carbon Neutral, a leading non-profit organisation that has already planted over 30 million native trees in Australia. Now every cruise has an equivalent sustainability tree planting value for the benefit of concerned cruise goers.
This is an optional and voluntary choice offered to everyone who books with us, the idea being that for just a few dollars extra for some native trees, our great country (and the planet) will be a better place after your cruise.
We also recognize that many from poorer countries that we visit urgently need assistance and in 2001 commenced our sponsorship program of schoolchildren in Ethiopia, Kenya And Uganda, recently expanded to small villages in Samoa, Solomon Islands and Sabah. These projects are self-funded by the company, staff and friends and complete details are available on request. We also support Médecins Sans Frontières Australia.
Every year we try to add an extra project aimed at helping future generations in our region and promoting friendship with our neighbours of all races and religions.
Currently we are developing a strategy for stopping the commercial harvesting of the Great Barrier Reef's coral. There are 59 operators licensed by the Queensland Government to mine 200 tons/year of rare, live and vulnerable coral for export. This practice is banned worldwide by countries including the Philippines, Bali, Guam, Samoa, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and Florida. In our own backyard however,we are treating the Great Barrier Reef like an industrial development site.
